Oh, I'm sorry! I got carried away with my story and I didn't even properly introduce myself! I am Zelda, Princess of Hyrule.
What is your name? ..... Link... Strange...it sounds somehow familiar.
- Zelda, Ocarina of Time
Name: Princess Zelda of Hyrule
Abilities: Magic, some weaponry (daggers), prophetic visions
Personality: Tomboyish, stubborn (prefers to get her own way)
Bio: Zelda was born during the time of The Civil War in Hyrule. With the death of the Queen soon after her birth, Zelda was left as the only heir to the throne of Hyrule. Luckily, her father was able to stop the fighting and create peace within the kingdom.
Growing up, she mostly kept to her studies, as there were very few children her age to play with and the children frequented the castle avoided her because she was the “Princess”. Impa, one of the few remaining Sheikah, was tasked with her care and became a surrogate mother to the princess, as the King was busy the keeping peace in the land.
As she grew older, the prophetic powers that were found in her ancestory came to light. When she was just 10 years old, Zelda had a vision of dark clouds descending on the land, parted by a person carrying the Kokiri Emerald. Believing these clouds represented Ganondorf and his desire to take over Hyrule, Zelda told her father of her vision. However, he believed that her vision is false and pushed her aside.
Soon after, a boy from the forest appears, carrying the Spiritual Stone and agreed to help Zelda stop Ganondorf from taking over Hyrule. Unfortunately, Ganondorf struck before Link can return and Impa was forced to take Zelda and fled from the castle, leaving behind the ocarina for Link. The Door of Time was opened and Link was sealed away by the Master Sword until he was old enough to wield its power.
Ganondorf is able to enter the Sacred Realm but the Triforce is split into three pieces. Zelda received the Triforce of Wisdom and spends the next seven years hiding from Ganondorf, waiting for the Hero’s return. For the rest of her life, Zelda refused to talk of what occurred during that time period but was trained as a Sheikah by Impa and disguised herself as Sheik, survivor of the Sheikah. With this disguise she was able to help the Hero through his journey.
When she finally revealed herself to the Hero, Zelda was captured by Ganondorf. Link, however, heroically came to her rescue and together were able to defeat Ganondorf, sealing him in the Sacred Realm. Regretful that her actions deprived him of his childhood, Zelda sends Link back in time, before Ganondorf got into the Sacred Realm.
Link and Zelda both retained their memories of the other time, and as they grew older, their friendship also grew. Link, however, was very much the wanderer and did not linger in Hyrule. Although Zelda felt very affectionate towards the Hero, she kept herself in check for a while.
Although destined for the throne, she did not warm up to manners of state until her later teens, preferring to study. Pressured by her father to marry, Zelda dodged most of his attempts to find her a suitor. Reluctant to tell her father of this romance, Zelda tended to sneak away from the castle whenever Link came to visit (and then some), much to the annoyance of her protectors.
